Site FAQ

These are the most frequently asked questions about the site, in general. Questions that are related to using tarot are featured on the Common Questions page. Please continue to send your questions along to me - but this page might help you if your question is already listed.

Q: Do you accept guest articles?
A: My work online tends to be a form of self-expression, from the graphics to the web design to the written content of the site. This is true for other sites of mine, not just Illumination Tarot. I need to know I can change things when I feel like it. I have been tempted to accept outside submissions - there are some great unpublished tarot writers out there, and I know my site could benefit from their contributions. However, I don't feel I can offer them the guaranteed exposure they deserve. When it comes down to it, Illumination Tarot is still just a personal site.

Q: Will you set up a newsletter?
A: It's possible. If I do, I may accept guest articles, because I feel I could then create an online archive of such work and offer decent, pemanent publication for them.

Q: Will you set up a message board?
A: I have often been asked to set one up, but I have no plans to. I am really bad at keeping up with conversations on message boards and in mailing lists, though I love to visit and read through them. I think I would be a lousy moderator!

Q: May I post your material on my web site, message board, or newsletter?
A: If you would like to use my material, please get in touch and introduce yourself and your site or newsletter. If I think my material would be at home on your site or of benefit to your readers, I'll likely give permission to use it.

Q: May I use your tarot spreads in my professional practice?
A: The tarot spreads are there for people to benefit from, whether privately or professionally - so please do! Just don't take credit for them. I think it's pretty nice that people are using my spreads when reading for their clients.

Q: Would you help identify a card, or deck, for me?
A: I would be happy to help identify your card or deck if I am able to. Please send me a full description, but do not send a scan unless I have requested one. I am fascinated when people send me descriptions of obscure (or seemingly obscure) cards. I enjoy hearing the unusual stories about single cards found on streets or in restaurants, or cards that stood out in readings done at fairs; and I have fun doing the "tarot detective work."

Q: Would you help interpret a reading I did?
A: I'd be happy to help interpret a reading you did for yourself (not for a client), but please do share your own impressions of the cards, as well as something about the context of the reading. Please understand that because I didn't actually do the reading, my suggestions are only offered as additional insights for you to consider. And, please also understand that if you send me a ten-card reading to help interpret, it will take a while for me to reply!

Q: Why won't you help interpret a reading I did for a client?
A: There are a number of reasons why I think this is pushing it, ethically, but it's enough to say that the client has put their trust in you, not in me.

Q: Will you tell me what a card means?
A: I will tell you what I think a card means, in general. If you provide me with a context for it, then I'll also offer what I think it might indicate within that context.

Q: Are you ever going to teach an online tarot course?
A: It's not likely.

Q: Can you tell me how to get in touch with an author?
A: Most authors can be reached through their publishers, and many publishers have web sites that list author information including links to author web sites, as well as author email addresses. I will help you locate an author online - either their own site or their publisher's. I will not give out private information about authors I know personally, and writing to me will not get your message to an author.

Q: Would you help me design my tarot deck?
A: I will point you in the direction of several resources for designing your own deck, and if you want to bounce ideas off me, I'd be happy to hear them and offer comments or suggestions.

Q: Do you sell tarot decks or books?
A: I only rarely sell directly. Purchases can be made through my site if you enjoy shopping at Amazon.com. There are a number of very good online shops listed in the Links, for those hard-to-find decks.

Q: How can I support Illumination Tarot?
A: You can show your support for Illumination Tarot by linking to the site on your own web site, sharing the link with friends, and by making purchases through the Amazon links on the site.
